Hi… So, we’re Subterranean Popular. I hate doing these things, it feels like a job interview or like I’m writing a CV… but screw it, here it goes.

The Subterranean Popular is a London based alternative rock band. I guess the best way to describe us is Alternative, though I suppose Indie or something trite like Nu-Grunge or Neo-Grunge Revival or Grunge revival or New Wave Grunge might fit in some way. Basically, what we end up doing is pretty tunes, melodies and riffs screeched through a fuzz box, driven along by energetic bouncy beats and basslines. 

Inspiration comes from bands from all eras, but there's definite signs of classic Indie and Alternative like Breeders, Pixies, REM and Nirvana in there – anything interesting, energetic and purrrdy really. The Subterranean Popular’s lyrics pull inspiration from various sources; politics, social issues, news, films, books or just how people (authors included) have managed to screw up somewhere in life. That last comment makes us sound miserable, right? Don’t worry, it’s not all a drive to suicide, I promise. Some of it is quite optimistic, in a weird way. Plus, as I said before, the tunes are kinda pretty. Give us a try – see what you think.
